Assessment services available at Farnham

Below we explain which assessment pathways are available at our Farnham clinic. To find out more about each service, please use the detailed service information linked below or contact our team for more information.

Autism assessments

We offer private autism assessments for children and adults from the age of 5 years, with the face-to-face appointment held at our Farnham clinic. The pathway is led by a multidisciplinary team and follows NICE guidelines. Our reports have been used to support EHCP applications for local authorities and schools.

The assessment process includes sending out questionnaires to complete, the ADOS-2 assessment in the clinic and the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADIR) online followed by written recommendations and a feedback meeting.

ADHD assessments

Private ADHD assessments are available for children and adults from age 7 upwards, including an in-person appointment in Farnham. We follow NICE guidelines for our ADHD assessments using gold standard assessment tools like the QB Check which is completed in person and the ADHD Clinical Evaluation (ACE) interview in addition to assessment questionnaires like the Conners ADHD screening measure.

The assessment is followed with a detailed assessment report, recommendations and a feedback meeting.

Combined autism and ADHD assessments (AuDHD)

Where both autism and ADHD may be relevant, a combined assessment allows our clinicians to consider the two together.

This option is available from age 7 for children and adults and is a combination of the two assessments above, completing the ADOS-2 and QB Check face to face in addition to the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R) and ADHD Clinical Evaluation (ACE interview).

We then will write a detailed report and offer a feedback meeting to go through any questions.

Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)

Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is not currently recognised as a standalone diagnosis within the DSM-5, which is the diagnostic manual we follow. This means we cannot formally diagnose PDA.

However, if a child is assessed as being on the autism spectrum and shows a profile that is consistent with PDA, we will absolutely acknowledge and describe these traits within the assessment report. We understand how important it is to recognise these differences in presentation, particularly when it comes to understanding a child’s needs.

If you’d like us to explore this area further as part of the assessment, we can also send out a specific screening tool, the Extreme Demand Avoidance Questionnaire (EDA-Q) to help us better understand your child’s profile.

Autism assessments for girls and women

Autistic characteristics can be less readily recognised in girls and women, particularly where someone masks or compensates in social, education or work settings.

Our clinicians are experienced in considering these differences in presentation as part of the wider autism assessment.
